so yesterday, before i left my mom's house to come to chicago, the pest control dude was scheduled to pay us a visit. my stepdad made an appointment for him to come and evaluate the bat problem. i thought to myself, "how great would it be to name a bat-control company 'batman and robin' or something to the like?" you could buy Batman apparel for all the employees, and if more than one person was required to take care of a job, you could dress a second employee as Robin. how cool would that be? i'm sure naming a company after the famous duo would probably violate a myriad of copyright laws, but just humor me here. anyway, i non-chalantly addressed the guy as Batman mid-conversation, just to see how he would react. he laughed hysterically, then revealed the shocking truth: NO ONE had ever called him that before. how is it possible to have been in this line of business for ten years, yet NOT ONCE been referred to as Batman? he said HE had thought of it, and that last year he almost bought batman gear and walked in des moines' 4th of july parade as an advertisement for his company, but the fact that no one else has ever mentioned it to him is disturbing to me. apparently no one in iowa has a sense of humor. thank God i got out when i did.
