i just realized that yesterday was my aunt's birthday. i didn't call her. i totally thought about it yesterday during class, but then forgot once i got home. i'm a horrible niece. not that she and i communicate all that often, cuz she lives in san diego, but i wanted to call. and i didn't. she always remembers my birthday. suck. my aunt Mary is very cool. she's a runner. runs marathons like nobody's business. and she loves to learn, which is a quality that i really admire. i think it totally entertaining when people will tell me they just read crime and punishment for kicks. i don't know if she's ever read crime and punishment-- that was just an illustration, but you know what i mean...learning is one of those things you never get too old for.

so there's this new guy we hired at starbucks a couple weeks ago. he's my new friend mike, and he is a great addition to the starbucks team. he learns fast and works hard, and we really need him as the occasional closer. mike and i were talking on saturday, and i think we're going to pursue an innovative money-making opportunity. we are going to create a starbucks pick-up lines book. the book should have at least four sections, with pick-up lines from customer to employee, employee to customer, employee to employee, and customer to fellow customer. here are a few examples of what mike and i came up with. bear with me here, they are still in the infant stages:

1) "You're the cookie of the month in my pastry case."
2) "Can i get some sugar with that cappuccino?"
3) "Here's your iced decaf grande roomy no water almond with whip americano. would you be interested in a side order of me?"
4) Customer: "wow, this coffee is hot."
Barista: "yes, starbucks' standard temp for hot water is 190 degrees."
Customer: "i don't think the temperature has anything to do with the water being hot."

so these are a few of our ideas. starbucks headquarters will be hearing from us soon. yessirrreee. should be a hit.
